Before his win, mentor Michael Bublé noted that Vasquez could make history as the first Filipino and Asian winner of ‘The Voice’ America after twenty-six seasons.
In typical Filipino fashion, Sofronio Vasquez immediately fell to his knees in tears as he was declared the winner, and so did Bublé.
“My Filipino brother, you are the hope of so many people… it has been such an unbelievable journey to be here with you,” Bublé remarked.
Vasquez beat out his fellow Team Bublé contestant Shye with his winning performance of “A Million Dreams” from the musical The Greatest Showman. He is set to claim prize money worth NZD $170,000 and a record deal with Universal Music Group.
Vasquez took to social media soon after winning the contest, posting a photo with Bublé along with the caption: “Dreams really do come true. Believe that you can, and manifest it with your whole heart.”
Setting the tone for his win, Vasquez’s blind audition of Rose Royce’s “I’m Goin’ Down,” earned an instant four-chair turn, where he picked Bublé as his coach.
The dental hygienist born in Misamis Oriental credits his father for his love of singing and has competed in numerous Filipino competitions in the past such as ‘The Voice Philippines’ and ‘It’s Showtime’s Tawag ng Tanghalan’.
The Voice 2024 champion had already released a number of singles in 2022, including “Shine,” “Mahalaga” and “Bililihon.”
